Asking for Help (and releasing the need to do it all by yourself)

SELF-CARE PRODUCTIVITY

I’ve always been an overachiever, a quality I’m sure some of you can relate to.

After high school, I attended the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City as a full-time Trainee in their new Jazz Program. I also took three college courses online on top of dancing eight hours a day, five days a week. When I transferred to Point Park University, I graduated two semesters early with a bachelor’s degree and a minor. As I write this, I am starting my freelance virtual assistant business while working two other part-time jobs and still trying to stay up with my dance and voice training. I like to think I am an expert at juggling multiple things at once. In other words, I know what it’s like to handle a lot (ahem… too much) but not ask for help.

I’ve always been fiercely independent which means I was (and still am) fantastic at not asking for help. Sometimes I look back on my challenges and wonder if things would have been easier if I had asked for help instead of doing it alone. I don’t necessarily consider it a mistake or a personality flaw because I learned a lot and have grown into a much stronger person. However, I do think there’s a huge advantage in being able to rely on someone else, even just a little bit.

If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you can relate in some way. Maybe you are taking on more than you can chew or you are just too proud to ask for assistance. I’m here to tell you it’s okay to get help. Yes, we want to be strong, independent, and badass but that doesn’t mean we can’t lean on others or delegate when things become too much. Asking for help and support doesn’t make you weaker. It makes you smarter.

It is one of the reasons that hiring a Virtual Assistant can be such a gift. You can delegate all sorts of tasks to a VA. Whether it be administrative in nature, graphic design, social media management, content repurposing, blogging, market research, or so many other tasks. A virtual assistant can become your indispensable right-hand man. We are there to help you. We want you to feel confident that you can share your work with us. We want you to feel relieved that you don’t have to do it all on your own.  Being stubborn about asking for help will not serve you in the long-run. It will benefit you so much more to release the need to do everything yourself. You will feel lighter and happier knowing you have support that you can count on.
